Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you've been in therapy before (once or many times) or whether this is your first time, trying to find a therapist can be a scary prospect. I've answered a few common questions here, but please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns you may have and I'll be more than happy to respond.

FAQ

What kind of therapy do you do? Do you do CBT/DBT/EMDR?

My work is primarily informed by the psychoanalytic (and particularly Lacanian), psychodynamic, existential, and feminist therapy traditions. While my approach draws influence from many areas of psychotherapy theory and practice, it is not strongly influenced by CBT, DBT, or EMDR.

Are you comfortable working with gay/bi/queer/trans/poly people? Do you have experience working with such people?

I am queer, and many of my clients, past and present, have fallen within these groups. I welcome all people to my practice, and particularly enjoy working with queer, trans, and gender-nonconforming people.

Do you work with children or adolescents? What about couples or families?

Where and how do you see clients? Who can see you?

How often should I plan to see you?

I do not currently work with children or families. I work with adolescents on a case-by-case basis, when I feel I can do so effectively. I do work with couples.

I currently only see clients remotely, through teletherapy. I am able to see clients living anywhere within the state of Washington.

Research indicates, and I believe, that therapy is most effective when done consistently. As a result I encourage clients to plan to see me at least once a week, and I cannot guarantee consistent appointments on a less frequent basis.
